Anglia East Energy Efficiency Advice Centre is launched in Norwich
The Anglia East Energy Efficiency Advice Centre was launched by Ian Gibson MP in Norwich at the start of Energy Efficiency Week on 14th October 2002. Invited guests, representing the ten local authority districts served by the new advice centre, were on hand to hear Dr Gibson stress the importance of saving energy as a way of relieving fuel poverty and combatting climate change.
Dr Gibson lamented the recent failure of a new Energy Efficiency Bill to reach the statute book, but was delighted to see that residents of much of Norfolk and Suffolk were for the first time going to be able to receive free and impartial energy advice that should, on average, save them £28 per annum. He was also pleased to hear that the Energy Efficiency Advice Centre staff were able to advise residents about relevant renewable energy options, and could refer small and medium enterprises to a specialist unit elsewhere in East Anglia.

The launch of the Anglia East Energy Efficiency Advice Centre took place under a huge inflatable low-energy light bulb. Visitors to the Forum were able to complete a Home Energy Check and the first 100 received a free low-energy light bulb (CFL) that should save each of them £5 a year before acting on any of the other advice that they will receive following the check.
The advice centre is based at the offices of Broadland District Council, but offers advice to all residents of the 10 districts of Broadland, Norwich, Babergh, Great Yarmouth, North Norfolk, South Norfolk, Ipswich, Mid Suffolk, Suffolk Coastal and Waveney. Advice can be given over the telephone by calling Freefone 0800 512012 or by a computer generated report after a Home Energy Check has been completed.
The Anglia East Energy Efficiency Advice Centre is always willing to offer independent, expert speakers in the fields of energy efficiency, renewable energy and energy policy to local or regional radio and television. Staff have recently appeared on BBC Radio Norfolk and Broadland Radio, explaining the simple actions that householders can take to cut their fuel bills and help the environment.
