BBC Three Counties Radio visits the National Energy Centre in Milton Keynes

BBC Three Counties Radio's popular breakfast show, hosted by Toby Friedner, was broadcast live from the National Energy Centre in Milton Keynes this morning, 18th July.

The Breakfast Show took as its theme green and efficient energy, and ways in which Milton Keynes' residents can save money through saving energy as well as benefitting the environment. The Foundation's Deputy Director, Ian Byrne, started off explaining a little about the projects carried on inside the National Energy Centre, as well as talking about loft and cavity wall insulation.

BBC's Toby Friedner admires a solar fountainSaffron Myhill-Hunt, from the Milton Keynes Energy Agency, spoke about the work of the Energy Efficiency Advice Centre, including some examples of how she saves energy in her home. After the 9am news, Toby Friedner was joined by Tony Rinaldi of National Energy Services, who told him about the way the Government's WarmFront programme can provide free insulation and heating measures for people on low incomes.

The highlight of the visit was a chance to see round the Energy Bus, with its interactive displays of renewable energy. The Foundation's Felicity Beaton showed Toby a solar garden fountain, as well as larger scale ways of generating electricity from the wind and sun. Details about how to hire the new Energy Bus can be found on the GreenEnergy web site.

Finally, Toby was amazed to discover that TVs can use as much energy if left on all night in standby mode as they do when they are actually being used.

The National Energy Foundation is always willing to offer independent, expert speakers in the fields of energy efficiency, renewable energy and energy policy to local or national radio and television. As well as BBC Three Counties radio, Foundation staff have appeared recently on BBC Radios Lancashire and Norfolk, and in the past have appeared on most main TV channels.
